Mindfulness. Everybody’s doing it. How about you? How do you start being mindful? The simplest way is to pay attention to what’s happening, right now.

Why? The more time you spend in the present moment is better for you, for your brain, for your body, your heart, your ability to listen, your ability to be more empathetic, and it’s good for the people around you as well.

And from hanging out in the present moment comes less stress PLUS more creativity, innovation, leadership, joy and all sorts of other good stuff.

So (right now) what are you thinking? hearing? tasting? seeing? touching? smelling? cognizing? (Even if it doesn’t feel so good.)

When you give your attention to what’s happening right now… you’re in the present moment. Got it?

Now that you’re here, hang out for a bit. Any thought, feeling, sensation, emotion, sight, sounds, itch, throb, joy, delight, fear — anything at all — breathe with it for 3 breaths.

Breathe in and breathe out and just be with your experience. Then let it go, and return to what you were doing. (Simple, not always easy.)

Remember that it takes practice. That’s why it’s called a mindfulness practice, not a mindfulness perfect.

So now that you know, how are you going to start being mindful?
