I recently taught a Masterclass called “How To Name Your Signature Program”.

While I was creating then delivering the content, I realized that you can use these 7 questions for anything you’re naming (like a product, program, or service), and as a way to contextualize your ideas, vision, or message.

So I invite you to read through the following questions, with a little extra time and consideration.

(When I go through this process, I start by taking a few deep breaths so I can let them land.)

  1. What’s your purpose? Why are you doing this?
  • (And how can you talk about it in a way that inspires and excites you?)
  1. What have your audience, clients, customers, colleagues or staged already shared with you, about you, what you do, and how you do it?
  • (Words, phrases, descriptions of transformation, results, outcomes, experience, benefits, etc.)
  1. Who is/are your most important audience(s)?
  • (How would you describe them? How else? What’s missing that’s vital?)
  1. What’s already going on in their heads? What words will resonate with them and inspire the emotions you want? (
  • (What do you know about them already? What don’t you know? What do you need to ask them)?
  1. What 3 things define you and how you work?
  •  (Think simple, catchy, memorable.)
  1. How would you name it for a savvy 15 year old?
  • (Is there a story behind it?)
  1. Let’s say we’ve just met at a party… and I asked, “So, what do you do?” What will you say?

Make this description brief, exciting, and compelling — for you — and for me. Why will I will want to work/partner/collaborate with you, or refer you to someone I know?

Convince me.

Make sure I understand who you are, what you do, and why you do it.

Because if you’ve got something that will transform my business, my life, or both… that’s the best thing you can do.
